MrBeast & Crohn’s Disease: His Journey + Mine

There’s a moment most of us with Crohn’s remember clearly: when we first realized something wasn’t right with our body. For me, it was years of early signs like bathroom urgency, pain that didn’t make sense, and food turning into the enemy. So when I found out that MrBeast, YouTube’s golden boy, also has Crohn’s disease? Yeah, it hit different.

The guy who builds chocolate factories, gives away Teslas, and plants millions of trees also gets Remicade infusions and deals with flare-ups? That felt… weirdly comforting. Like, if he can juggle all that and still have Crohn’s, maybe there’s space in the world for the rest of us to succeed with it too.

This post isn’t just about him though. It’s about what his experience reveals and how it overlaps with mine, and maybe yours too.

What Even Is Crohn’s Disease?

I’ll keep this part simple. Crohn’s disease is a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It inflames the digestive tract, and symptoms are all over the place: stabbing abdominal pain, diarrhea, blood or mucus in your stool, zero energy, and weight you can’t keep on no matter how much you eat.

For years, I thought it was just “my stomach acting up.” I didn’t realize it was a full-blown immune system malfunction. There’s no official cause yet, but it seems to be a mix of genetics, immune response, and environment. I might have inherited it from my family, but stress and processed food? Those were basically part of my personality.

MrBeast’s Crohn’s Diagnosis: What We Know

Jimmy (MrBeast) was diagnosed at 15. Right around the time most people are trying to survive high school, he was juggling video uploads and hospital visits. He talks about quitting baseball because the pain and urgency were too much.

That part I get. I never played baseball, but I did try to act like everything was normal: pushing through flare-ups, pretending I could “power through” gut pain while hanging out with friends or trying to work. It never went well.

MrBeast eventually found relief with Remicade, one of the most common biologics prescribed for Crohn’s. I’ve never taken it personally, I went a different route, focused on food, lifestyle, and very targeted supplements, but I respect that it helped him get back on his feet.

Treatment Isn’t One-Size-Fits-All

He’s been public about taking Remicade infusions as treatment to suppress his immune system. That’s a common option, and for some people, it works really well. I know a lot of folks who rely on it to live semi-normal lives.

For me though? I wanted to see how far I could go with a natural approach. After years of trial and error, I put together my own gut-healing system, using no biologics, and no surgery. I built it around food, stress reduction, and a few key supplements. That system eventually became the foundation of GutMellow, the protocol I wish I’d had when I was stuck in flare-up limbo.

I’m not anti-medication, but I am pro-options. Crohn’s is hard enough. Everyone deserves a roadmap, not just a prescription.

How His Illness Shaped His Work

MrBeast has said that Crohn’s actually changed how he works. He batch records content, plans around his health, and sometimes disappears from the internet when symptoms hit. It’s invisible to most people, but I see it.

When I was flaring, even writing a short email felt like a chore. My energy was low, I had brain fog, and I was constantly thinking about the bathroom. Now that I’m in remission, I’m able to focus. I write, I run GutMellow, I travel, and I don’t build real-life “Squid Games,” but I do feel productive again.

Crohn’s forces you to get creative with time and energy. It teaches you to listen to your body or pay the price.

His Business Ventures Surprised Me at First

Feastables and MrBeast Burger honestly caught me off guard. As someone with Crohn’s, I naturally assumed he’d lean toward gut-friendly offerings. But let’s be real, most of his food brands fall more into the treat-yourself category than the healing-food aisle.

Then again, it makes sense when you remember that he manages his symptoms with medication, not dietary restrictions. For someone like me, who relies on food to stay in remission, it’s a different approach, but not the wrong one.

Even though the products aren’t designed with IBD in mind, I still think his personal experience with Crohn’s probably influences how he thinks about things like ingredients, transparency, or customization. You can tell there’s at least some consideration behind what ends up on the menu.

Why Him Talking About Crohn’s Is a Big Deal

When someone with over 200 million followers casually mentions they have a disease like Crohn’s, it normalizes it. It chips away at the shame and confusion a lot of us carry.

I didn’t talk about my symptoms publicly for years. I was embarrassed by the urgency, the bloating, the unpredictability. I felt broken. And when I did talk about it, people either gave me bad advice or looked uncomfortable.

MrBeast isn’t turning Crohn’s into content. He’s not milking it for sympathy. He’s just real about it. That matters. It gives permission for the rest of us to stop hiding what’s going on inside our bodies.

Crohn’s and Mental Health Go Hand in Hand

He hasn’t said a ton about the mental side of Crohn’s, but I’d bet it’s affected him. It affected me deeply. I had anxiety around food, bathrooms, travel, relationships. I felt like my gut was in control of my life, and not in a fun “listen to your gut” kind of way.

I had to work hard to rebuild that sense of trust with my own body. Meditation, journaling, sun exposure, sleep...these weren’t “hacks.” They were survival. And once I paired them with the gut-healing foods and routines I lay out in the GutMellow bundle, everything started shifting.

My Crohn’s Protocol vs. MrBeast’s Approach

He went the medical route. I went the holistic one. But we’ve both found ways to live with this disease and still show up for the things that matter to us.

That’s the real takeaway here. There isn’t one “correct” way to handle Crohn’s. But there is a better way than suffering in silence. Whether it’s Remicade or bone broth, infusions or ginger tea, what matters is finding what works and staying consistent.

If you’re curious about the exact foods, supplements, and habits that helped me get into remission naturally, I put everything into GutMellow. It’s what I wish someone had handed me when I was just trying to get through the day without pain.

Final Thoughts

When I think about MrBeast, I don’t just see a YouTube genius. I see someone who’s managing a complex, unpredictable disease behind the scenes while building an empire.

Crohn’s might shape our choices, but it doesn’t have to steal our future.

Whether you’re taking infusions or sipping bone broth, we’re all figuring this out together.

And if you’re looking for a place to start, GutMellow is where I’ve laid out my path. Because no one should have to go through this without a roadmap.

Hi, I’m Colin Wells, founder of GutMellow and author of How I Stopped Flare-Ups & Achieved Remission. My journey with Crohn’s disease started over a decade ago, and like many people diagnosed with IBD, I was told my only options were biologics and surgery. But I refused to accept that as my future. Through years of research, trial and error, and relentless self-experimentation, I discovered a way to manage my symptoms naturally. By overhauling my diet, eliminating inflammatory foods, optimizing my gut health, and making key lifestyle changes, I was able to reverse flare-ups, achieve remission, and take back control of my health, without biologics or surgery.
